My name is Huntzian. I am 24 winters old. I am a member of a clan that consists of myself, Mayok--an elder male, Zaphyll (Mayok’s last child, my mate, 18 years old, mother of Rashura), Nannituck (39 year old female, mother of 13 year old daughter Nanura and 10 year old son Ohmed)
About me: I joined Mayok’s clan 2 springs ago after spending much time with other clans. When I was old enough to travel on my own I set out and traveled far meeting others of my kind. The first clan I visited was led my Mayok. Mayok taught me that when a young male such as myself visits other clans in hopes of meeting a mate that it is always best to take gifts. He also taught me much that I didn’t learn from the elders of my original clan. Mayok has taught me tolerance of the little people and that it is ok to accept their gifts under the right circumstances. Mayok has a beautiful daughter, Zaphyll. Mayok told me that I would have his blessing to marry his daughter but first he wanted me to visit other clans and meet other females. He also wanted more time for Zaphyll to mature and enjoy her excursions to watch the little people before she was faced with the duties of motherhood. Zaphyll will forego sleep to go and watch the little men with yellow hats working on the tall trees without leaves. She will sit and eat nuts and watch the little people for hours. She especially loves to watch the young of the little people. Zaphyll is very special to Mayok. She is his last child and she is just like Mayok. She has all of his good qualities. She is full of love, patience and great joy. So, I did as the wise Mayok said and I visited other clans. I always took deer, berries, fish and other gifts. All of the families I visited were different from one another. I met lots of females but none were as fantastic as Zaphyll. I spent 3 summers on a great journey. I had great fun seeing new places and meeting others of my kind. I learned a great deal. I missed Zaphyll and the great leader Mayok so I joined back up with them in hopes that Zaphyll did not find another mate and that Mayok would let me join his clan. Upon my return Zaphyll was as beautiful as I had remembered and she had even matured into a beautiful woman. Mayok had weakend during my absence. He had much more gray in his hair and he said his knees often hurt more when he had to travel far to hunt. I have proved to Mayok that I am a good provider. Even though I am much stronger and a better provider, Mayok is still the leader of this clan. Mayok is very wise even though he is not as strong as he once was. Mayok is training me daily to be a great leader and is preparing me to lead his clan.
Zaphyll and I have a daugher, Rashura, that was born this past spring. She is beautiful. Zaphyll is a great mother. Nannituck is another female in our clan. She is 39 winters old. Her mate died last summer and she joined us as she did not like the new leader of the clan she was once a member of. She has two children. Nanura is the daughter of Nannituck and is 13 winters old. Nanura is very strong like her mother and she wants very little to do with the hairless people. Nanura always likes to do things her way and is very strong willed. Ohmed is the 10 yr old son of Nannituck. He is going to be a great provider. He shadows Mayok and myself and is already talking of being the leader of a great clan one day. He loves to climb to the top of the biggest trees and call like a bird. He is a very accurate stone thrower. This winter has been hard and Ohmed’s great rock throwing skills have come in handy with fresh fowl for the clan. The winter has been so hard that I have had to travel far for food. I once traveled two nights to catch a deer. This deer was very large. On my return home I would travel at night and during the sunlight time I would find cold water to place the deer in while I would rest. I did this to keep the meat fresh. This past spring there were many deer born. Mayok said that we should feed upon the grown deer so that the deer with spots could mature and feed us in the winters to come. Unfortunately, two young males of my kind came through our area and took several of the deer with spots. I wanted to fight with these males, but Mayok said it would be two on one as he was too old to fight and Ohmed was too young . Mayok said to just let them pass. They stayed around our area longer than I cared for. They ate our deer and went too close to the little people at night. They often yelled at night too close to the little people. I really wanted them gone. Mayok said be patient so I was but I could not figure out why they had not moved on. Then, one day, I saw Nanura talking with them. She had placed flowers in her hair and a honeysuckle vine around her waist and was being too friendly. I let this be known to Nannituck who quickly advised Nanura this would not be tolerated as these males were not suitable to be her mate. These males did not bring gifts to our clan and did not even request hunting privileges in our territory. They came and they took with no respect to us..
Food has been very low. So low that Mayok wants me to make contact with the little woman that has been trying to make contact with us. I have mixed feelings about this but Mayok has been teaching me the right way to do things and well, I have a family to provide for and she wants to help. Last night I stood at the edge of the woods near her house. It was a few hours before the sun was to rise and I knew she would be near sleeping. As her mind cleared I sent the message to her about my clan and all the members. She wanted to know this and Mayok told me to let her know about us as she wanted to know and it was a way to form a friendship. I told her I would be back in 9 nights to get food from the wood ground behind her house. I also told her I would not come up if the light was on. I have noticed when I get close to her house at night a light comes on but if I move really, really slowly the light doesn’t come on. She will leave us food as she has before but we did not take it. We watched as other animals took the food. Now, we are hungry and we need the food to nourish our bodies. Mayok says its ok to accept this food gift as we need it now but as we do this we should always be on high alert.
