Since we live in a rural setting we have outside cats. This last summer when our FF's were coming up close to the house and we would communicate with them not once did I observe a cat getting scared of them or even acknowledging that they were there. I watched as Steve &Tony got too close to a big male and get skunked all the while the cats were underfoot and out and about. Now with dogs they will take after our FF's bark or run and hide. Why don't the cats run and hide? Or is it that the cats just don't pose a threat so they ignore them. But then why doesn't the cats have a natural fear of them like dogs do? Is it fear that makes every thing get so quiet when they are around or some kind of special vibe they put off to the other animals ,birds ,frogs, insects ect. ? I guess I would like to know why a regular old cat isn't bothered when all the other animals seem to be? What is actually happening when you get a dead zone? Can any one comment on this? Windspirit

hello wind spirit, when i came across the small juvenile, it was like a bridge had been crossed, when his eyes flicked opened, and i saw a change take place all around me, it was like when he blinked and the covering in his eyes , had gone and his eyes opened all the way in surprise, the air and noise seemed to return to me, i still cant explain it, he was walking under the oak tree as , saying i cant be seen , i am invisible, and he was unafraid, and as i was watching this, he was like he was the only being around, i think they use this as a safety thing they use, to feel confident in their inviroment , and to sneak up on their prey, or stalking like cats do, maybe this is the connection, i really don't know, this is a area we need to explore more on, its like a 6th sense , they have, that humans
don't have, or did have in the past and lost it as we evolved further in to modern humans, who really knows, but i will tell you this, as i watched this happen in a blink of his eyes, it was like a magic faucet had been turned off, and reality returned to normal, it was his eye covering , that looked like a cats eye, and then the blink and the eyes changed in to huge orbs of black surprise, he then stopped in a heart beat, his mouth turned in to a small circle, his eyes then got even bigger, as if saying , of crap , i have been seen, and then he was kind of frantic, as he turned his head left and right, to find a way out, he made a about face pivoting on his right foot, and fast walked the way he came, i saw every detail from front to back of him, and was marvelous to see him in the wide open exposed, like this, i have waiting for years for a chance to see this, all this happened in about 20 seconds, i was crouched down with a smile on my face during all this time, just calmly watching this take place, i did not move until he was gone back in to the tree line that was across the drive way, from where i saw him , and to where he disappeared was about 75 feet,

I can not tell you exactly what is happening all the time when everything goes deathly quite when the FF are about. I know that sometimes this is used to confuse their prey when they hunt. They will lightly skunk at the time everything goes quite when we are around and get to close to them. I think, do not know for a fact, that they use this death zone as a defense to confuse us so they can get away. Like Steve says this is something we need to look into more and research more before we say we have the answers or base our conclusions on what little we know about this.
Yours,
Jan
